ChemCatalysis published the latest paper from the Karabencheva-Christova Lab entitled “Revealing the catalytic strategy of FTO: Chem Catalysis.” The paper explores the mechanism of FTO with a pentanucleotide-ssRNA(m6A) substrate. FTO follows a σ-HAT pathway for the demethylation process. The network of residues that stabilizes the transition states has been identified. Mutants R316Q and S319F affect the O2 activation and HAT reactions.
