A one year postdoctoral position is available at Michigan Technological University in the Department of Chemistry in the group of Dr. Kathryn A. Perrine. Research is focused on surface reactions relating to energy and environmental materials, in addition to investigating fundamental chemical reactions and physical phenomena on surfaces, including gas/solid and liquid/solid interfaces.
It is a high priority that the applicant will be expected to design reaction cells and measure chemical interactions at the liquid/solid interface. Other projects will include designing functionalized materials using bottom-up chemical approaches, sample holders for specified measurements and determining chemical reactivity of resulting materials. The applicant will also run independent research projects, maintain vacuum equipment and scientific instruments, assist students, communicate with the PI and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Essential Qualifications:
bulletpointPh.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field
bulletpointExperience with measurements at the liquid/solid interface or spectroelectrochemistry
bulletpointExperience with vacuum technology and surface analysis instruments
bulletpointMust be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
bulletpointExpertise with various surface analysis instruments, particularly FTIR, SEM, TEM, TPD, LEED, XPS, AES, ALD, PVD
bulletpointExperience with surface functionalization, deposition or surface engineering
bulletpointExperience with Labview programming
bulletpointAbility to design and test creative solutions for custom cells for spectroscopies and chemical synthesis
bulletpointDesire to be a leader in the laboratory, working with/helping students on projects
bulletpointExcellent communication skills including record of data, composing manuscripts, verbal communication of research efforts
bulletpointConduct laboratory work and data analysis with the highest quality and conduct of research

To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, research summary, up to three reprints of published research articles and arrange for submission of three letters of recommendation addressed to Dr. Kathryn A. Perrine, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Michigan Technological University, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI 49931, USA. Please submit all materials by email to kaperrin@mtu.edu.
